Overview

 

Mentorship Skills are required by all people reporting to them and need to develop them. This can from an admin manager developing a receptionist to a Professional engineer developing a candidate engineer. Mentoring is a relationship between two individuals based on a mutual desire for development towards career goals and objectives. This is merely two examples, mentorship takes place in many different formats. The relationship is characterised by the focus on development and learning and growth of the mentee/the protégé. There are many techniques and approaches that help an individual develop others.  This course has been designed to equip mentors with a mentorship tool kit that will assist in the mentor- mentee relationship to become a productive and meaningful and relevant experience that helps facilitate achievement of career goals.

Defining Mentorship

  • Exploring the differences between Mentorship and Coaching
  • Discussing the important of expectation management and contracting in Mentorship
  • Understanding how learning styles and preferences impact the mentorship relationship
  • Understanding and applying Conversational Intelligence to Mentorship Conversations
  • Ensuring the right environment for learning conversations to take place
  • Connecting Neuroscience (NS) to Mentorship - How does knowledge of the brain help us mentor more effectively
  • Understanding Mentoring in different environments including the Engineering Environment

  • An understanding of Mentorship and the benefits in the workplace
  • Understanding the differences and the overlap between mentoring and coaching
  • Understanding Conversational Intelligence framework and knowing how to apply it
  • Awareness of the impact of Neuroscience on creating the right environment for mentoring
  • Enhanced Skills in having effective learning orientated conversations
  • An insight into procedural standards and requirements of mentoring in the engineering sector
